Bor's school is situated in the town of Värnamo, 12 km outside the towncentre. Värnamo has a varied set of trade and industry, with rubber, wood and metal industry. In our area the rubber industry is dominating.
Our school was built in 1979 as a secondary school with 3 to 4 classes per grade. The students were taken from the eastern part of Värnamo. In 1995 the school was partly rebuilt to make it a school for grades 6-9.
We have good connections with the local trade and industry which means we can offer our pupils practical training periods in industry, commerce and social services.
The number of pupils is currently 230. There are about 25 teachers. They are well trained and staff turn over is low. We have a number of enthusiasts in the staff, especially in the computer field.
For a number of years we have increased the competence of the staff regarding computers. Cooperation with the local industry made this possible. We invested early in network solutions. The computer teachers train other teachers and staff.
There are 90 PCs available for education connected to a server in a Novell network. 32 of these computers are located in two computer rooms. In addition to this we have class computers, which are primarily used by Social Studies, Languages, the library and Support teaching. For linking into the Internet we have a fibre connection (100 Mbit/s) to the citynet in the town of Värnamo.
For the administration there is a separate Novell network with 9 PCs.
Today the students use the computers to a great extent in their studies. In order to be able to work faster at the computers, students get touch board training and also learn wordprocessing in grade six. To seek information on the Internet becomes natural to them. Through e-mail a global perspective is gradually opened up.
A concentration on IT is a distinctive feature of our school.
